In pursuit of her passion for essential oils, Lesley Henry has created heaven in her very own home. When she opens the door to her workroom, the natural aromas of citrus and lavender infuse the air.
“People come in and say, “Oh what a lovely scent”. The whole house smells beautiful,” Lesley said.
With 30 years’ experience working with essential oils and a knack for creating new things, Lesley has a special recipe for everything from soaps and shampoos to pet pampering products and men’s care.
“I’m a very tactile person, I love working with my hands,” Lesley said. “And I won’t work with anything that is not an essential oil. I want something that’s going to have a benefit to people as well.”
Her most popular essential oil soaps are mandarin and lemon myrtle, and her loofah bars are also a hit – adding exfoliation into your daily scrub.
They sell like hotcakes at the markets, where Lesley and her husband Stephen perfectly package each homemade product with great care.
“The shampoos do very well too. The favourite one is the itchy scalp shampoo. It is just absolutely fabulous,” Lesley said.
Having suffered with an itchy scalp all her life, Lesley was relieved to create a product that completely irradicated her problem, while minimising how often she has to wash her hair.
“I used to be washing my hair every second day. Now I wash it once a week and it stays looking really good. One bar lasts Stephen and I six months,” Lesley said.
“I call them massaging bars because they’ve got bumps on the top of them. They are absolutely the most wonderful shampoo that I have ever used.”
Lesley is also excited to have found the perfect conditioner recipe after a six-month search. Like with all her products, she was determined to create something free of nasties, and unlike any commercial offerings.
All her recipes are thoroughly researched and unique in their own way.
“Everything has got a little bit of caster oil in it because it makes it soap up really well, and caster oil is so good for you. It’s good for you skin, it’s good for your hair, it’s good for everything,” Lesley said.
Lesley also makes a gentle lavender soap to help babies sleep, and fun decorative soaps for kids – think race cars, dragons, and dinosaurs.
She offers a broad range of gift packs, including bundles of her new men’s products – beard balms, shaving cream, and aftershave – as well as soothing oils in citrus, peppermint, and lavender spice.
